When international law firm Haynes Boone returned to us for their London relocation, they were entering a period of sustained growth. The firm needed a larger workspace that could support their expanding team today and leave room for future headcount, with desks intentionally planned to fill over time. Their new home in the refurbished Aldercastle building offered the right foundation — a modern, light-filled setting surrounded by green spaces and views of the historic London Wall.
As a traditionally structured practice, Haynes Boone required a layout with private offices for partners, supported by secretarial teams and associates nearby. Achieving the right balance of enclosed offices and open-plan desking on a tight floorplate meant exploring several iterations before arriving at a configuration that delivered both efficiency and the workflow required by a modern legal team.
Confidentiality was a defining principle in the design. In line with the 72% of legal firms who see sound privacy as critical to effective workplace design, Haynes Boone wanted to significantly improve on the acoustic performance of their previous office. We introduced double-glazed partitions throughout, ensuring a high level of sound insulation for private offices and meeting suites.
Their presentation spaces also needed a significant upgrade. Previously reliant on drop-down projectors, the firm wanted clearer, more reliable technology. We introduced state-of-the-art AV and blackout blinds in their largest meeting rooms, creating optimal conditions for both in-person and hybrid presentations.
Like many forward-thinking firms, Haynes Boone recognised that client experience and hospitality play an increasingly strategic role in the legal workplace. Their new space includes a suite of flexible meeting rooms that can open up to create an event space, supported by a dedicated hospitality zone for catering and hosting.
At front-of-house, a reception lounge provides a standout client-facing environment. Used for more intimate meetings, this area offers a premium hospitality experience with views across the balcony and nearby green spaces, creating a memorable first impression and reinforcing the firm’s brand.
The design aligns with Haynes Boone’s established US standards: smart, neutral and sophisticated. A feature ceiling in reception and a bespoke joinery wall between reception and the breakout space offer a subtle layer of character while supporting privacy. These elements help create a cohesive flow while maintaining the gravitas expected of an international law firm.
Haynes Boone’s new London office is a future-fit, client-ready environment designed around the realities of modern legal practice. It provides the space, technology and privacy their teams need today, while offering the flexibility required for long-term growth.
By combining acoustic excellence, premium client hosting and efficient planning, the workplace offers a platform for Haynes Boone to strengthen their presence in the City and continue evolving with the legal sector’s changing demands.
