We are very proud to announce that Oktra has achieved B Corp certification, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards being a more sustainable, ethical and community-focused business.

As a leader in the design and construction industry, which contributes significantly to global carbon emissions, we recognise the responsibility we have to reduce our environmental impact, create social value and do so in a transparent and ethical manner.

That’s why we’re thrilled to join the global B Corp community through B Lab UK, where companies are united in their pursuit of a better way to do business—one that meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance.

What does it mean to be B Corp Certified?

The B Corp certification challenges companies to integrate social and environmental values with financial goals. For Oktra, achieving this certification means that our operations, from governance to daily practices, must consistently reflect our commitment to these values, positively impacting our employees, communities and the environment.

The certification process involved a retrospective review and gap analysis of how we have been operating and our impact as a business. This was a holistic assessment— from the diversity of our workforce to our corporate oversight, our supply chain vetting process and our contributions to our community and the charity organisations we partner with.

This framework provides us with a lens through which to view all aspects of our business, helping us understand how we benchmark against B Corp standards and where we stand against other organisations.

What does this mean for us?

One of the most important aspects of the certification is how it encourages us to consider the impact of our decisions on all stakeholders, not just shareholders, aligning our business strategy with broader social objectives and long-term sustainability goals. This certification is more than a milestone—it’s a guiding framework that will drive continuous improvement throughout our company.

This framework is a holistic approach that involves integrating sustainability into our projects, from how we incorporate wellbeing into designs to material selections, environmental resource management in operations and the social value we create. By setting these internal standards, our aim is to not only reduce our negative environmental impact, but also demonstrate to clients and partners that sustainable practices are both feasible and beneficial.

Achieving B Corp certification has allowed us to enhance the way we operate and engage with our partners. We’ve sharpened our focus on making our supply chain more sustainable by implementing strategic initiatives, such as prioritising local sourcing and selecting certified partners.

However, our commitment extends far beyond the supply chain—it influences every aspect of our business. With this certification, we aim to lead by example, inspiring others in the industry to embrace sustainable practices. It’s about fostering collective action and raising industry standards to benefit both the environment and society.
