Oktra Welcomes Alex Turner as Group BIM Manager

Introducing Alex Turner, digital processes specialist and Oktra’s new Group BIM Manager.

We are thrilled to announce that Alex Turner has joined Oktra as Group BIM Manager. With over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, Alex has worked on a range of projects from mixed-use developments and commercial schemes, to large-scale public sector projects valued at over £100m. He has specialised in commercial fit outs for more than a decade now, managing the technical design delivery of Cat A and Cat B projects.

This isn’t the first time Alex has worked with Oktra, though. During a three-year period at LTB (first as the BIM Manager responsible for moving LTB from CAD to Revit in just one year, then as Head of BIM working with the WeWork team to develop their BIM strategy), he kickstarted Oktra’s digital construction journey, overseeing the very first implementation of Revit on one of our projects. “It’s great to be back,” says Alex, “I love the new office and it’s good to see some old faces and be welcomed so warmly by the new faces.”

Alex has been using Revit and associated software for over 15 years now, gaining extensive BIM experience during his time in the industry. He’ll be developing Oktra’s digital transformation strategy moving forward. “Digital transformation is the biggest change to hit the Construction Industry in 50 years,” he explains. “Implementing the right technology platforms will position Oktra at the front of innovation within the industry, enabling us to provide our clients with truly future-focused solutions.”

The new Group BIM Manager has big plans for the business, starting with improving efficiencies across digital processes. “One of the areas of technology I will be championing is the use of Clash Detection and the implementation of 3D MEP Coordination,” he says. It’s a process that minimises inaccuracies in construction models and that, when managed correctly, reduces time, energy and waste on site.

“Moving forward, I hope to develop the use of process and technology to improve project costing, programming, health and safety, site installation, construction sequencing and sustainability,” Alex offers before adding that the result will be heightened asset and facilities management.
