Buck, a leading HR, pensions and employee benefits consulting, technology, and administration services firm, were approaching a lease expiry at their previous office and used their relocation as an opportunity to create a more contemporary, functional space for their business. Staff areas were designed to enhance their ways of working and improve efficiency, with an open plan back-of-house providing more opportunity for employees to collaborate. We reserved the front-of-house for client spaces, with a modern lobby, seven meeting rooms, and separate teapoint to help personalise the client experience.
A bespoke reception desk designed with details from Buck’s logo showcases their brand identity upon entering the space. We incorporated the full spectrum of the client’s colour palette in the acoustic panels running the full width of the floorplate from reception to the far end of the breakout space, reserving the business’ brighter brand colours for staff areas. This creates an end-to-end journey for staff, ensconcing them in the company’s brand and adding vibrancy to their workspace.
The self-contained client area in the front-of-house was kept simple and minimalist with a muted palette to ensure a clean, professional space for guests. A client lobby branches off onto four meeting rooms fitted with flexible folding walls, allowing the space to be extended into two larger areas ideal for training sessions or events. Designed for maximum flexibility, the space can be redressed depending on the needs of each client.
Buck’s new office maximises the available space in the back-of-house with an open fixed desk area and six private offices bordering the central space, which was space planned according to their team structures. To enhance the open plan area, we stripped back 10,000 sq ft of the ceiling to improve the sense of space. Supplemented with a staff breakout area and outdoor balcony space, employees benefit from a less disjointed workplace with additional space to encourage collaboration.
