Our Clerkenwell office and showroom has achieved a SKA gold rating following the prioritisation of sustainability in its design.
We are pleased to announce that our London office and showroom has received a SKA gold rating. As the RICS environmental assessment method, the SKA rating is a benchmark for sustainability in non-domestic fit outs. Our in-house sustainability team worked closely with our design team to ensure the project prioritised sustainability wherever possible, from our sustainable procurement policy to achieving a 100% recycling rate.
“Since the SKA rating is developed for fit outs especially, the process was a seamless fit for this project,” she explains. “The flexible scope of the SKA rating ensures that the framework can adapt to whatever suits the project, making it a great fit for most cat A and cat B fit outs.”
After conducting our own furniture audit, we decided to keep as much furniture from our previous workspace as possible, including all of the desks, chairs and tables. Reusing furniture reduced embodied carbon, extended product lifecycles and divert perfectly good products from landfill and reduced cost considerably. This was a particularly important point for the business as we completed the design and build of our Clerkenwell office during COVID-19.
Many of the products and finished featured in our new workspace have built-in sustainability measures of their own. All of the flooring, for example, comes from sustainable suppliers and has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The Interface flooring materials we used also contain 54% recycled content. The doors and glazed partitioning in our office are from Komfort’s Polar line and are reusable, all of the paint we used is Dulux and low VOC, and all of the timber used in our fit out is FSC certified.
The office showcases our in-house abilities but also the products our suppliers create. It stands as a testament to the quality of sustainable finishes and the incredible degree of transformation that can be achieved when using existing materials.
