Consult and design
Millennial Media are a leading mobile advertising platform, connecting brands with mobile consumers and helping developers maximise their revenue through advertising. Having continued to grow rapidly since expansion into Europe in 2010, the firm soon grew out of its original workspace. Millennial felt we ‘got them’ from our first presentation but to really understand the concerns, aspirations, technological and spatial needs of such a mobile firm, we carried out extensive employee surveys and a series of workshops with key members and the project sponsors.
Manage and build
Our brief was to create a suitably dynamic, inspiring and collaborative workspace in 7,000 sq ft of 22 Berners Street, London W1. The previous office had been cramped, bland and unimaginative – the polar opposite of the ethos of the company. We established that brand was important and featured the firm’s primary and ancillary colour palettes throughout the refurbishment of the new workspace. We injected colour into the meeting rooms and supplied loose breakout and meeting furniture to create a flexible, vibrant hub where interaction would become second nature and a true sense of community could be nurtured.
The new space
Most of the final space is open plan but with client-facing meeting rooms, a front-of-house café breakout hub for clients and staff, as well as various informal meeting spaces and facilities, such as showers. We removed the suspended ceiling in the front-of-house area of the new office to create a loft/warehouse vibe. A new HVAC system was essential. The result is a far more collaborative and spacious working environment. We designed a space that Millennial Media can invite clients to and be proud of, resulting in a perfect cultural and brand fit.
